SUSPECT IN FATAL DUI HIT-AND-RUN TRIES TO SWIM ACROSS LAKE TO AVOID ARREST

According to Colorado State Police, a 32 year-old Colorado woman with a history of alcohol related offenses is in custody after swerving her Ford Ranger pickup into oncoming traffic and causing a head on collision with a Nissan sedan. The driver of the Nissan, 33-year-old man, died at the scene. Two other passengers who were also in the Nissan — a 24-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child – suffered serious injuries and were eventually airlifted to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment.

Troopers say that the driver of the Ford Ranger fled the scene on foot and tried to swim across a nearby lake. Boaters brought the woman to shore where she was taken into custody. The woman has a previous history of alcohol offenses, having pled guilty to DWAI just 2 days before the fatal crash. One’s ofDenver’s top DUI Lawyers says that prosecutors will likely view this case as extremely aggravated based not only on the fatality but also based on the woman’s recent plea to a major alcohol related driving offense.
